“It’s time to ask yourself Dr. Jones what you believe…..”

An Ode to Worldviews: “Why” is the “Pi” of Philosophy.

What are your rights as a person? Do you have any? Did someone give them to you? Who?
Why?
Do they exist simply by virtue of your person-hood/existence?
Why? According to whom?
Why?
Who defines what person-hood/existence is?
Why?

What if someone tries to take them away. Do they have the right? Why? Why not?
Who will defend your rights? Whose job is it?
Are they worth defending?
Why?

Why are you here?
What is right and wrong? Is there such a thing? Who decides?
Why?

What is Truth?
Why?

Do you even matter?
Why?

My answers to these questions come from my faith in Jesus Christ. I don’t have any airtight argument to give you that fits a statistical criteria of 2 sigma. I’d venture to say that few do. I don’t have all the answers. I’d venture to say that none do. I do trust Jesus. I do think there is a body of evidence supporting my faith that is compelling enough to at least merit consideration. Were you to actively search for it, you may find it too. I don’t necessarily believe the earth was created in 7 24 hour periods. I’m not fully decided on how much of the Bible is allegorical. I don’t hate science. I do trust Jesus. I do believe that there is power and truth in Scripture. But make no mistake, ultimately I believe faith is a choice. Just as unbelief is.
Thank God we live in a free nation where free speech and expression is allowed (at least for now). Whatever you believe, I think these questions are important, and in today’s world, all too often ignored. If you haven’t ever asked yourself any of these questions, then….what the heck are you doing here guy?

Up here.
